What a Woman Can Do
© 2021 Susan Anders/Zanna Songs
It’s dusk when my red plane and I finally take off
The Newfoundland air’s calm and fine
Here I go through a bruise of a sunset
I’m always so confident starting a climb
But the sky is rebellious, reminds me of me
I’ve never been one to conform
I’ve got charts and adrenaline and gasoline
Will they carry me through any storm?
I’m scared but I’m cocky
So just you watch me
Sailing up over the blue
I’m wild but I’m careful
I’m courting angels
I’ll do what a woman can do
When I’m back home I can’t wait for the next flight
I’m not meant to be on the ground
And though my head’s aching my spirit’s racing
When I ascend I’m unbound
But the night’s coming fast bringing herds of dark clouds
The moon’s trying to rise steadily
And wind hits the fuselage
And all the violence of sound encapsulates me
I’m scared but I’m cocky
So just you watch me
Sailing up over the blue
I’m wild but I’m careful
I’m courting angels
I’ll do what a woman can do
I’m aiming for Paris, I’m going by the book
But like life this storm has other plans
When I get through this I’ll find a field somewhere
Sometimes you don’t know where you’ll land
I’m scared but I’m cocky
And just you watch me
Sailing up over the blue
I’m wild but I’m careful
I’m courting angels
I’ll do what a woman can do
