My Life in the Stars
© 2021 Susan Anders/Zanna Songs

Pardon me, what did you say?
Sorry, I don’t hear so well
I’m not complaining, it’s just a fact
Sounds are dull since I was ill

But that doesn’t matter much at my work
I’m at the observatory all day
Studying photographs of distant skies
Measuring stars and how they change
And they do

My life is in the stars
I can show you where they are
I know how much each star shines
And how that brightness shifts with time
How luminous and variable they are
Just like my life in the stars

I’m not well paid for the work I do
And men take credit for what I find
I’m not complaining it’s just a fact
Still this is how I want to spend my time
So I do

My life is in the stars
I can show you where they are
I know how much each star shines
And how that brightness shifts with time
How luminous and variable they are
Just like my life in the stars

My body cannot keep up with me
I’ve always been a sickly girl
I’m not complaining it’s just a fact
I may not last long in this world
So I do what I do

My life is in the stars
I can show you where they are
I know how much each star shines
And how that brightness shifts with time
How luminous and variable they are
Just like my life in the stars
